Nighttime in all it’s natural glory

It is oddly calming to remember that nighttime is the natural state of the world, but daytime just so happens to occur because we’re lucky enough to be close enough to a star that reflects its rays onto us.
So maybe that’s why I feel safest and most free when the moon is up. I feel as though the hours between 1am and 5am were created for the poets and artists and writers and lyricists and musicians. Nobody can disturb you then. Nobody expects anything from you. Nobody is going to tell you off for how you spend that time. You don’t have to worry about deadlines or any set work from others. For a small amount of time each night, you get to focus on yourself and your passions and your interests, without worrying about how it may affect others.

Once the clock strikes midnight and everyone else is fast asleep, I turn on my bedside light, open my book and I can read in complete peace, allowing myself to inhale the words and pages with speed and curiosity, knowing that I won’t be interrupted by the sounds of my foster sister yelling at her boyfriend on the phone or my sister baking yet another set of brownies or my parents watching something on the TV.
Or, if I really wanted to, I could just stare outside my window for hours, admiring the peaceful sway of the tree branches when met with the night breeze.
If I choose to lie on my bedroom floor at 3am and listen to my favourite album with headphones in, and just watch the ceiling as I think of all the things going on in my life, it won’t negatively affect anyone else, in fact, it won’t affect anyone at all.

I truly think that the nighttime was gifted to those who stay up late enough to appreciate its beauty.
